Arts For Life Launches My Life Is Bold, a CD featuring collaborations by children battling serious illnesses and a host of great musicians
An innovative CD combining the poetry and art of children battling serious illnesses with the talents of professional composers and performers is being launched by Arts For Life, a nonprofit organization serving children with life-threatening illnesses in four cities in North Carolina.
The concept for the CD, titled My Life Is Bold, had its origins in 2009 when singer songwriter Becca Stevens sang at an Arts For Life fundraiser for which she and her father, William Stevens, set some of the children's poetry to music. The response to those songs was so strong that William, Becca, and her brother Bill, a musician and recording engineer, began discussing ideas for a CD. The result is a compilation of fourteen incredible songs: some sweet and poignant, some happy and silly, all genuine and magical. The CD features music written by pianists Taylor Eigsti, Aaron Parks, singers Becca Stevens, Rebecca Martin, Gretchen Parlato, Kate McGarry and more.
Arts For Life supports people facing serious illnesses and disabilities by providing educational art programs that enrich patients' lives, nurture their minds and spirits, and encourage positive healthcare experiences for children and their families. The organization serves more than 4,700 young patients annually through its programs at Mission Health System in Asheville, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, and Duke Children's Hospital in Durham.
My Life Is Bold is available on the Arts For Life website at www.aflnc.org. Arts For Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the sale of the CD will support Arts For Life's programs for young patients and their families in four hospitals across North Carolina.
Composer Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans' Centennial Project was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards and won a Grammy for Best Arrangement of a Song. I recorded the 2nd track on the CD entitled Smoking My Sad Cigarette. We plan to work together again in 2014!
